SURAT... SAFE HABITAT
On 18th August 2010, the evaluation of the submission was done by a panel of Jury at Science Centre, City light road, Surat.
Following is the result of the evaluation:

As we all know Climate change is inevitable. Mitigation & Adaption Utilizing optimum resources is the only way to get prepared and face all future consequences.
Surat - a coastal city in Gujarat have major threats from climate change impact in terms of flooding, coastal storms and cyclone, sea level rise and inundation. The city has experienced major flooding every few years in the last two decades, with some events (2006 flood) covering as much as 75% of the city. It is low lying settlements and settlements close to the river and the khadi, often homes of the poorest and vulnerable population, that have been worst affected by floods.
Surat Initiative:
Under ACCCRN (Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network) Program, Surat Municipal Corporation ( SMC ) &Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA)along with other organisations Rockefeller Foundation, TARU, The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, CREDAI Surat and SVNIT-Surat ( Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology ) propose to launch national level planning & design competition for professionals and students with two different themes as described below:-
Theme I : Planning & Design of low income group cluster housing in areas prone to frequent flooding.
Theme II : Spatial Area planning of low lying area with high flood risk.
